Bill reviews books and movies he sees and reads: --------------------------------------------------------- 1) Midnight Cowboy. Bill's favorite. Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight play side-kicks in late '60's New York, Hoffman a homeless con artist and Voight, recently from Texas trying to score with older ladies for cash. Brenda Vicaro. Enough said. 2) Australia. Super, dreamy, down-under. Great shots of the land of Australia. Good story, lots of action. Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. Set during WWII. 3) The Appeal. By John Grisham. Excellent! About the appeal of a case against a chemical company in Mississippi. Great writing and plot. Above average Grisham. 4) Transporter 3. Disappointment. 5) Public Enemies. Clark Gable played a gangster. This movie is good. This movie is tough and leaves an impression. Johnny Depp is cool. 6) Da Vinci Code. Page turner. Taut thriller in a religous back-drop. Dan Brown. 7) Ingourious Basterds. Hitler is assasinated in a movie theatre. Had to see it twice. Pitt does a good job in his role, as Jewish US soldier leading a pack of killers. 8) Perfect Getaway. Wow. The audience finds out in the end, they have been with the killers all the movie. Inventive twists and primal action. 9) A Serious Man. Coen Brothers. A Jewish family man's troubles overwhelm him. He faces life alone. 10) Thirst. Korean vampires in modern times. And a love affair. Excellent and often comedic. 11) Moon. Hypnotic tale on the moon with a twist at the end. Sam Rockwell of Matchstick Men. 12) Taken. Liam Neisen loses his daughter to kidnappers. But the kidnappers are in for a surprise. 13) True Grit. Faithful to the book and John Wayne's movie. Lots of action, entertaining. 14) Black Swan. Disappointment.
